In the context of green project management green simply means more complete.
Sustainable project management not only covers traditional economic issues but also environmental and social aspects. Profitability has a wider sense. Projects must not only deliver short term benefits but the resulting products and services must be environmentally and socially viable. What this means is that right from the beginning a long term product and service life cycle related view, known as 'P5' concept by the GPM consortium, have to be taken into consideration.
Green life cycle extends the traditional life cycle term both temporally and conceptually. In the latter case it means complementing environmental life cycle assessment with the social life cycle assessment of products. Guidelines for this have been developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
