It's summertime and time to introduce the next green project, which is the circular economy village developed by Ekokem and partners.
The village, located in Riihimäki, will start operations at the end of 2016. It will consists of the eco, plastic and bio refineries. Eco refinery separates organic waste, plastics and metals from the community waste. Materials are either recycled or used to produce energy. 50% of the total waste can be recycled and the total utilization rate increases to 96-98%.
Bio refinery built by Biotehdas Oy produces biogas and nutrients, such as nitrogen. It is able to handle and use the organic waste included in the normal community waste. Currently 400 000 tons of organic waste among the community waste remains unused in Finland. Bio refinery uses the innovative technology developed by Watrec Oy.
Ekokem plans to later export the concept to other countries.
